By: Taylor Evans, 7th Grade Journalist Move over, dodgeball and track—there’s a new sport in town! Capital City Middle School is set to introduce Ballerina Wrestling this spring, and students couldn’t be more excited. This unique sport, which combines the elegance of ballet with the intensity of wrestling, has already become a hit at other schools, and we’re ready to embrace the fun and competition it brings. What Is Ballerina Wrestling? Ballerina Wrestling might sound unusual, but trust me, it’s awesome! Contestants, or “ballerina wrestlers,” wear ballet-inspired outfits, including leotards, tights, slippers, and belts that show their skill level. The belts range in color from buttercup (beginner) to the ultimate pink (master level). Matches are held in the school yard where players compete using ballet-style moves to outmaneuver their opponents. Points are scored for grace, technique, and skill, and the winner of each match earns decorative wings. The more victories you rack up, the larger and cooler your wings become. At the end of the season, the ultimate champion gets crowned with a sparkling tiara! What People Are Saying At schools where Ballerina Wrestling has already been introduced, the reviews are glowing. Liam, a 6th grader at Riverdale Middle School, said, “At first, I thought it wouldn’t be for me, but once I tried it, I realized how challenging and fun it is. It’s not easy to stay graceful while wrestling, but that’s what makes it awesome!” Parents are just as enthusiastic. Mr. Reynolds, whose son is competing in Ballerina Wrestling, shared, “This sport has been a great way for my son to explore something creative while still staying active. It’s really impressive to see how much athleticism and focus it requires.” Excitement at Capital City Middle School Here at our school, anticipation is building. Coach Miller, our P.E. teacher, is eager to get started: “Ballerina Wrestling is the kind of sport that challenges students in new ways. It’s physical, artistic, and strategic—it’s a great addition to our athletics program.” Some of our students are already getting ready. Ethan Brown, a 7th grader, said, “I like wrestling and never thought I’d be into anything like ballet, but this sounds like such a cool mix. I can’t wait to see how good I can get!” Even more experienced athletes are intrigued. Tyler Sanders, an 8th grader who plays football, said, “Ballerina Wrestling sounds tough, but in a good way. I’m excited to try it because it’s totally different from anything I’ve done before.” Get Ready to Join! Whether you’re a dancer, an athlete, or just looking to try something new, Ballerina Wrestling has something for everyone. Sign-ups will begin in early March, and practices start right after spring break. Keep an eye out for posters around the school and announcements during homeroom! We’re ready to take the mat, earn those wings, and crown our first-ever tiara champion. Let’s make Capital City Middle School the Ballerina Wrestling capital of the district! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Gary, Nathan, and Douglas huddled together outside the vice principal's office, flipping through the latest issue of the Capital City Middle School paper. As they scanned the pages, they stumbled upon an article that immediately caught their attention: 'Ballerina Wrestling to Make Its Grand Debut at Capital City Middle School This Spring!' The three troublemakers burst out laughing, their teasing remarks escalating quickly. "Can you believe this? Ballerina wrestling? It's got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard," Gary said, chuckling. Nathan chuckled as well, his eyes scanning the article. "Yeah, and those outfits they're wearing? Leotards and tights? You've got to be kidding me." Douglas shook his head, a smirk spreading across his face. "And the winners get wings? Like, what's the point of that?" As they continued to mock the sport, Gary tossed in, "And what's with the name 'Ballerina Wrestling'? Doesn't that just sound like a bunch of sissies running around in tutus?" "Oh my god, it says that tutus are optional." Nathan chimed in, "Oh man, that sounds like the most embarrassing thing ever. 'Hey, look at me, I'm a f&*(kin' ballerina wrestler!'" Douglas snickered, "I bet the boys who play this are just dying to wear those sparkly outfits and prance around the ring." Their mocking remarks were interrupted when the vice principal's voice called out from inside the office. "Gary, Nathan, Douglas. You've been seen out here long enough. Let's go inside and discuss ..." The three troublemakers immediately quieted down, their snickers and chuckles dying off as they straightened up, trying to look innocent. As they followed the vice principal into his office, they couldn't help but sneak glances at each other, still trying to suppress their giggles about the absurd sport they'd just been reading about. Gary, Nathan, and Douglas stepped out of the vice principal's office, their faces lit up with excitement wearing the beginner ballerina wrestling uniform. The Ballerina Wrestling article they’d just read had sparked something new and thrilling in each of them. They were ready to dive headfirst into this unique and inspiring sport. “I can’t believe we’re actually going to be ballerina wrestlers!” Gary said, his enthusiasm barely contained. “This is going to be amazing,” Nathan replied, already scrolling on his phone. “I’m looking up where we can get those regulation leotards and tights. We’ve got to be ready!” Douglas grinned, giving an exaggerated twirl as they walked down the hall toward Coach Miller’s office. “I’m already imagining my wings. I’m going to win so many matches, they’ll need to carry me to the mat with all the wings I’ll have!” The vice principal had suggested they talk to Coach Miller to figure out what kind of training they could do before the formal tryouts started in the spring. As they made their way through the bustling halls, their phones buzzed with search results about the sport. “Okay, so it says here the tights need to be super flexible and durable,” Nathan pointed out. “And there are places online that sell everything in the right colors for skill levels. Look, they even have pink belts for sale!” Gary leaned over to check Nathan’s screen. “Forget pink for now—we’re starting at buttercup, remember? But hey, let’s order early so we’re ready to go as soon as tryouts start.” Douglas laughed. “Yeah, buttercup for now, but I’ll be rocking pink in no time. Just wait!” They reached Coach Miller’s office, where the door was open, and the coach was sorting through some files. He looked up and smiled when he saw the trio. “Well, well, what brings you boys here?” Coach Miller asked, leaning back in his chair. But Coach Miller knew the boys would be competing long before the boys did. “We want to start training for Ballerina Wrestling!” Gary announced, practically bouncing with excitement. Coach Miller chuckled. “That’s what I like to hear. Let’s talk about building strength, flexibility, and balance. It’s not just about wrestling—you’ve got to move with grace, too.” As they settled into the office to discuss their training plan, the boys could hardly contain their excitement. Ballerina Wrestling wasn’t just a new sport; it was an adventure, and they were ready to take the first steps toward earning their wings. End. Made with Microsoft Image Generator
